Hardwood Trees

Hardwood Trees

Hardwoods are typically associated with deciduous trees that drop their leaves seasonally. Angiosperms are also commonly called hardwoods. In reality, hardwood comes from both evergreen and deciduous trees as well as gymnosperms and angiosperms. The hardest wood found in most trees is in its core, which is called heartwood.

Tropical hardwoods, which are often evergreens, are some of the hardest woods identified by the Janka hardness test. Hardwoods are popular in construction, shipbuilding, furniture and flooring. The hardest woods are treasured for making instruments and carvings. Because hardwoods typically take a long time to grow, it is a resource that needs careful management and protection. Most of the endangered trees on our planet are considered to be hardwood trees. It is up to us to take action to protect them.
